Visiting Speaker April 15 - Dr. Jacob Caton
Dr. Jacob Caton, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Arkansas State University, will be giving a talk in our department on April 15. His talk, titled “Knowledge How as Plans,” will occur from 1:30-3:30 in McCain Hall, Room 175. His abstract is as follows:
I will articulate and defend a planning account of knowledge how. I begin by surveying related but incomplete proposals, and I raise objections to both. I next defend my account, not by appeal to intuitions about cases, but by arguing that a planning account is better able to explain and predict cases of know how. As well, I will briefly describe several recent examples from robotics that demonstrate the use of planning systems to perform complex actions.
We hope to see you there!
